9 Skills You Need as a Blogger

You are probably expecting that I’m going to be talking about all this technical stuff you’ll need to learn to be a blogger.

Not even close!

Yes there are many technical things you need to learn. But with the technology we have today it has gotten much easier. Learning these skill are not as hard as they used to be. You no longer need to be a tech genius to become a blogger.

Here’s a good article from Kristie Hill that explains that You don’t have to be a expert to blog.

It is actually very easy!

Also the support from the blogging community is absolutely amazing. I have never seen any type of business like this in my life.

In any other business those who would be considered competition, in the blogging community are so willing to help each other succeed.

Here are the skills I believe you need to make it as a blogger!

Stay True to Your Dream

When I started blogging people would ask me what I was doing. Many of them would roll their eyes and ask if I could really make money blogging. Some even told me I was wasting my time, or to get a real job.

I could tell they thought I was nuts!

Most people in the world today just don’t see blogging as a real way to make money. They can’t visualize how you can possibly make any money working from home on a computer. But times have changed.

Don’t let anybody ruin your dreams!

You can’t let these negative thoughts or comments enter your mind. You need to stay focused on where your at and where you need to go.

Just like Olympic athletes visualize themselves winning before they compete.

You need to believe it yourself in order to make it happen!

Discipline

Working from the comfort of your home it is very easy to get distracted. Kids running around, your favorite show is on Netflix, or it is a beautiful day outside and you want to go enjoy it.

Previously when working for somebody else these distractions did not exist. Working from home is an entirely new work environment you need to get used to. You have to find a way to not let those distractions hinder you in your progress.

Motivation

When you blog especially in the early stages, it can become difficult to continue working hard , when your not seeing results and it seems like nobody is interested.

I have seen many blogs come and go in the 2 years I have been blogging. They start out great, then as time goes by they start to running out of motivation. Starting to doubt if blogging will ever work and eventually end up quitting.

If you give up, you will never know what might have happened had you continued trying.

Don’t give up on your dreams!

What’s the difference between a dream and a successful business?

A lot of hard work!

Passion

Of all the skills a blogger needs, passion for you niche is the MOST IMPORTANT. It’s what your blog is all about. The reason you started in the first place.

Because if you don’t feel passionate about your niche, how are you ever going to find the strength to write and talk about it all the time?

Without strong passion for what you do, you will end up getting tired of writing about it, and then everything starts falling apart.

Patience

You need to have patience to hone your writing skills, to learn what you readers are really looking for. Understanding that it will take your readers a while to actually find you. This all takes time to master. Building a successful blog takes time.

Blogging is not a get rich quick scheme, you need to have the patience and desire to build it.

Consistency

In the beginning you’re all excited and write your first posts and then want for traffic.

Nothing happens!

You continue writing posts and still very little if anything happens. It starts getting harder and harder to continue writing. You start feeling that this taking to much of your time. The negative thoughts about maybe you wont succeed start filling your head.

But you can’t give up!

Giving up now will ultimately doom your blog, and also your dream of having your own business will be gone forever.

Remember Rome wasn’t built in a day, neither will your blog!

Confidence

I used to be so nervous about reaching out to others that I wanted to work with because I was new at this and very unsure of how to do it. But thankfully my desire to succeed in this was greater than my fear. I thought to myself what’s the worst that can happen. They say no, maybe even a few choice words. But just maybe they will say YES. That was all I needed to push on regardless of how nervous I was.

Confidence can be a very powerful tool. Learn how to use it effectively.

If you don’t have confidence in yourself, why would somebody else have confidence in you or your brand?

Market Yourself

In this rapidly changing world we live in today you need to be able to market yourself to stand out from the rest. You have a unique personality, let the world see this so people remember you. You don’t want to be exactly the same as everybody else.

Having the ability to change and adapt to the market around you is very important.

Learn From Your Mistakes

We all make mistakes in life and you will surely make mistakes blogging, and that’s OK. Being able to admit your mistakes and learn from them so you can make corrections is what’s really important.

Each time we make a mistake and learn from it, we become wiser and more efficient, avoiding to have the same mistake happen again down the road.

Things are always changing and we need to have the ability to adapt.

FINAL THOUGHTS

If you have these personality traits or are able to learn them, then I believe you can do well blogging. The technical stuff can be learned along the way.

I get that eye roll all the time about blogging or being a stay at home mom. It’s like those two jobs have no respect or like people think I’m lazy. In truth both of those I work my butt off and so far people comment on how good my kids are so my work has paid off hopefully one day people will say the same about my blogging. It gives me more determination to be successful.

These are excellent tips worth keeping and implementing. I would like to add if possible, we should learn from the mistakes of others are our time may not be enough if we to learn all by our own mistakes. Keep writing!
