Back in 2016 I found myself once again unemployed. I had recently been doing a sales job for the last year that I really didn’t enjoy. To be honest with you I have never enjoyed working the 9 to 5 lifestyle.
I knew something needed to change!
How I Got Started in My Blogging Business
So while I was out of work I started searching for an alternative. I was very tired of the way I earned money up to this point. I was always trading a huge amount of my time to earn a small amount of money.
There had to be a better way to earn a living?
But how was the million dollar question.
So I made a list of the things I wanted most in my life (and also what I didn’t want) and then took a long hard look at them. Seeing things written down made it easier for me to honestly look at things from a different perspective.
I was surprised with what I learned. I would have thought making more money would have been the number one thing. But what I learned from this was the one thing I valued the most was wanting the freedom to work at my own schedule.
I have always hated having to follow a schedule, even though I am very good at it.
So I decided that the only way to accomplish this would be to start a online business where my computer would have to work the regular hours instead of me for a change.
But doing what?
That’s when I discovered blogging. I spent a many months searching, reading and learning online from many different blogs. But how would I turn blogging into a business?
What I learned really intrigued me but I had no idea how to monetize it. But I looked at this as a challenge, no different than any other job I have had in my life. I really wanted a lifestyle change.
I thought why not give it a honest try?
At this point I decided I wanted to give this Blogging thing a try. So I got started, even thought not really knowing what to do, just having a strong desire to make this work for me, made me push on.
It ended up being the best decision I have ever made!
Before You Get Started
I see many people online talk about how to quit your day job and make huge amounts of money in a short time span with almost no work involved.
Sounds great doesn’t it?
Usually they are trying to sell you a Get Rich Quick course of some sort. Basically start your blog, write a few articles and presto, sit back and watch the money roll in.
If anybody tells you this, I would recommend for you to run away fast holding onto your wallet as you go.
Nothing in life works like this!
Blogging is no different than any other business. It takes a lot of hard work to turn your blog into a profitable business. And once your blog is actually making you a reasonable amount of money, you still need to continue working. No different that any other kind of business.
The big difference between blogging and other types of businesses are the freedom you have when blogging to work when and from where you want.
I just wanted to get that out there, as I see so many GET RICH quick advertisements that are just NOT TRUE.
How to Setup Your Blog
If you want to earn money from blogging then you need to keep certain things in mind. These are the basics for setting up your blog in the right way.
Focus on who you are writing to
Before you even start anything you need to have a clear vision of who you are writing to. What problems you are trying to help your reader solve. Your writing should have a razor focus on these points. Your blog must be relevant and help your readers to solve whatever the focus is in a clear decisive manner. Doing this on a constant basis builds your credibility in your topic.
Purchase you domain name and web hosting
Think of this as where your blog will live, so having a great web host is extremely important. You want a host that will take care of keeping your website online 24/7/365 so you can focus on your business.
My website ResponsiveBlogging.com is hosted through Siteground and I feel they are the best in the business.
They have excellent speed and the customer service is the best in the business. I have never waited for more than 5 minutes to chat with support and they have always been more than happy to help me with whatever issue I may have. You also get free SSL certificates and your own branded email accounts with it.
If you purchase your hosting through my link, I receive a small commission from Siteground (which is at no extra cost to you). If you find this article helpful I would appreciate you using my link to make your purchase. This is one of the many ways I earn money online.
Now you need to install WordPress to bring life to your blog. WordPress is basically the heart or operating system of your website. From the Siteground menu, it is very easy to install. If you need guidance, this is a great step-by-step guide to get you setup.
Write, publish, promote and share your good content
Now comes the time to start writing your own posts. You don’t need to be the best writer or expert in the field. Just remember who you are writing to and the problem you are addressing in the article. Write the same way you would talk to a person in a conversation. Let your personalty show. ALWAYS remember you are writing for your readers. This is NOT about you.
How to Make Money Blogging
There are many ways to earn money blogging, but they basically fall into these two categories
Create your own digital stuff (products, courses or coaching)
You can create your own digital products that cost you almost nothing except the time you invest in making them. They take a lot of time to create, but you keep the full amount you charge for them. These products can also be sold over and over without any new work on your part. This is a very good way to make Passive income online.
Promote and sell other peoples stuff (affiliates, sponsorships)
Or if you aren’t ready to create your own digital products yet, you can advertise and sell others products or services on your site and earn a commission for every sale you send their way. Basically you become like a salesperson for that company. It doesn’t cost your reader anymore money, just the same as if you where to buy a new car from a car dealer. The salesman made a commission on the sale (the commission is absorbed by the company).
At the end of the day I started blogging because I wanted to quit my day job that I was so tired of, the 9 to 5 routine and always having to try and arrange my life around my work schedule.
You don’t have to spend your life working for others helping them build their business for a small pay cheque.
You can build your own business as long as you are willing to put in the work. Allowing you to be boss free and work on your own schedule from wherever you want to be.
